Participant groups explained
This article is written for survey participants. If you are a coordinator and want to learn more about setting up group structures, please refer to the coordinator support materials.
When you take part in a survey, you are placed into a participant group. These groups shape how results are reported and are usually based on your organisation’s structure. This article explains what participant groups are, why they exist, and what it means for you as a participant.
What are participant groups?
Participant groups are created from the employee data your organisation collects and imports into the platform. They reflect your organisation’s structure—for example, your team, department, or location. These groups determine many aspects of a survey, such as who receives invitations, how response rates are measured, and how results are reported. In practice, this means you are usually grouped together with the colleagues you work with most closely.
Why are there participant groups?
Participant groups exist so that we can show survey results at group level. Effectory never reports results at the individual participant level. This protects your confidentiality while still giving your organisation valuable insights from the collective feedback of teams or departments. For more about how this works, see Your confidentiality when answering a survey.
Who assigns you to a group?
Your organisation sets up the participant groups by collecting and importing employee data into the platform and laying it out in a group structure. This is usually done by your organization's HR team or employee listening coordinator. If you have questions about your group, get in touch with your manager or HR team.
How do you know which group you’re in?
Your survey invitation usually shows your group name. If no group name is shown, your organisation may have decided not to share this information. Please check with your manager or HR team for more details.
What if you think you’re in the wrong group?
If you believe you’ve been placed in the wrong group, please contact your manager or HR team. They can confirm your assignment or make changes if needed.
