Correlations Report

What is it?

Correlation analysis is a statistical method that helps understand how two variables are related. It tells us how strong the relationship is and whether it moves in the same direction (both increase or both decrease) or in opposite directions (one increases while the other decreases).

With Effectory, this correlation analysis is done on the questions and themes within the survey. It allows you to determine how these questions and themes evolve in relation to each other.

It's important to note that a correlation analysis does not say anything about the causality between items, but only if there is a connection between these two.

When is this useful?

Effectory surveys are about positive employee emotions and work characteristics. This means that the correlations are almost always positive and high. This analysis helps with the question, "Which items should I look at first?“

This correlation matrix provides you with answers to questions such as:

  • What items have the highest correlation to Employer Excellence?
  • Can you tell me what items correlate with the question "My work gives me energy"?

How do I read the correlations report?

Overview

The Excel file contains several tabs to help you understand the correlation analysis. The first tab shows the correlation table, where each number represents the correlation coefficient between the corresponding questions and themes on the x/y axis. The following tabs display themes with their correlating questions, sorted from the highest to the lowest correlation coefficient with the theme. This allows for easy identification of the strongest relationships.

Coloring

The colors in the correlation table indicate the strength of the correlation coefficients. Different shades represent different ranges of correlation strength:

  • Strong Correlation: Represented by darker shades
  • Moderate Correlation: Represented by medium shades
  • Weak Correlation: Represented by lighter shades. This visual aid helps you quickly assess the strength of relationships between questions and themes

Calculation

The calculation details provide insights into the statistical methods used:

  • Minimum Respondents: At least 50 respondents are required in the group.
  • Minimum Responses per Question: At least 30 responses per question.
  • Response Rate: A minimum of 60%.
  • Minimum Correlation (R): A threshold of 0.2 is set for the correlation to be considered significant.
  • Alpha: The significance level is 0.05.

It's important to note that correlation calculations are only performed on Likert scale questions. Comparisons between non-ordinal scales (e.g., workload) and Likert scale questions are not performed. Additionally, correlations between a specific theme and its individual questions (which make up the theme) are not calculated. This ensures the integrity and relevance of the analysis.

What do you receive?

A complete correlations report (Excel report) to see correlations between all themes and questions.
In addition to this report, a visualization can be requested at additional costs.

Available in the Results + add-on or if separately stated in your contract.

Available for Central Coordinators and Local Coordinators.

Please note that the following thresholds need to met in order be able to receive this report:

  • Minimum number of participants: 50
  • Minimum response count: 30
  • Minimum response rate: 60%
