Introduction: The Leadership Role Compass

This module is currently in development and is expected to be available starting in November 2024

The Leadership Role Compass is one of the modules offered in our 360 Feedback solution. It supports managers in self-directed learning and growth. By collecting feedback from team members and comparing it with the manager's self-assessment, misalignments between the manager's view on leadership and the team members' expectations become apparent. This provides opportunities for constructive and fruitful alignments.

Who is the Leadership Role Compass for?

This module was created for managers who want to develop the effectiveness and success of their leadership.

What are the goals of our Leadership Role Compass?

  • To help managers develop their leadership in self-directed learning
  • To empower managers to reflect on their view on leadership in a structured way
  • To view opportunities for alignment in the team
  • To encourage open communication and feedback culture

What are the benefits of the Leadership Role Compass?

  • Creates awareness for effective leadership, both for managers and for team members
  • Allows for insights into (mis)alignments in the manager-employee relationship
  • Fosters a stronger team bond and higher level of trust
  • Creates a more productive team

What makes our perspective different from other leadership models?

In our solution, we are moving away from an outdated, yet still common understanding of viewing leadership qualities as personal traits of a manager. Instead, in our field-tested, tried and trusted perspective on leadership (based on Armin Trost, PhD, 2023) , we are convinced that:

  • Leadership context matters: We look for appropriate leadership within their specific leadership contexts
  • Leadership is a social category: We focus on the relationship between a manager and the team members
  • Leadership diversity rather than uniformity: Not every team works the same way and faces the same challenges. Therefore, also the approach to leadership needs to be adapted to diverse team environments. In this tool, there is no one-fit-all recipe for "good leadership".

What does the tool look like?

  • Multiple perspectives: Separate surveys for manager's (self-assessment) and team member's (feedback and expectations)
  • Personal profile: Results are shown in the form of a personal report for the manager only.
  • Clear overview: A results dashboard for managers with comprehensive overview of their role profile and how it (mis)aligns with the team's perception
